Yet another shameless bid for comments to feed my gluttonous blogger ego

What titles would you contribute to a list of books every child should read?
All genres are fair game.

The G.A.Henty novels, The Elsie Dinsmore books, The Daring Adventures series, The Cooper Kids adventure series, the old Hardy Boys books, Caddie Woodlawn, The Reckoning (by James Byron Huggins), Leviathan, Wee Sir Gibbie, The Lairds Inheritance, and any historical biographies.

The Bible (King James Version preferably)

Pilgrim's Progress, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, Beowulf, The Killer Angels, assorted Agatha Christie mysteries, lots of P.G. Wodehouse, and a healthy dose of the Far Side. For starters, anyway.

Treason by Ann Coulter. The kiddos might as well learn about the evil Democrats early in life.

I agree with Aleck, the authorized version of course.

Y'all have suggested some really good titles! Here are a few I could think of off the top of my head:

the Beatrix Potter books, Where the Sidewalk Ends, The Wind in the Willows, the LM Montogomery books, Louisa May Alcott books, Cheaper by the Dozen and Bells on Their Toes, Hans Brinker, Helen's Babies, Black Beauty, Robinson Crusoe, The Doug Jones books (Dutch Color, Huguenot Garden, and Scottish Seas), and of course, the Dr. Seuss books.

There are hundreds more, of course. I'm interested to see what everyone comes up with!

Bill Peet's books have been a favorite of ours and of course Curious George.

Did you ever read the HAppy Hollister mysteries?

The Redwall books were a childhood favorite of mine, so I'd recommend those. I'm currently hooked on Grisham, but that might be a little much for the young ones.
